MAITLAND, Fla. -- Southeast Switch Inc. has certified Diebold Inc.'s line of point of sale systems for use on the Honor electronic banking network.
The systems, which are based on terminals supplied by the French firm Schlumberger Ltd., accept magnetic stripe cards as well as smart cards.
Smart cards carry a computer chip that can store more information at a higher level of security than magnetic stripes.
Canton, Ohio-based Diebold, while still a small player in the point of sale terminal market, indicated that certification in networks like Honor is crucial if it is to improve its market position.
Certifications for other networks are expected to follow later this year.
