Midlantic asks to merge banks in 2 states.

EDISON, N.J. -- Midlantic Corp. has filed an application with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to merge Continental Bank, its Pennsylvania bank subsidiary, into Midlantic National Bank, its New Jersey bank subsidiary.

The proposed merger would enable Midlantic customers, whether in New Jersey or Pennsylvania, to transact all their business at any of 325 banking offices in either state.

The merger should be completed by yearend, pending regulatory approval.
