Discover backs education club.

Discover Card Services of Riverwoods, Ill., said it is a sponsor of the Michael Jordan Foundation Education Club.

The club was created to inspire sixth-grade students to strive for excellence by setting and meeting goals.

"All students have the potential to develop good habits leading to a life full of accomplishments," said Michael Jordan, the retired basketball star and current minor league baseball player who is chief executive of the foundation.

Mr. Jordan's former basketball team, the Chicago Bulls, is one of eight sponsors. Others include the Sara Lee Corp., Scholastic Inc., Target Stores, American Airlines, and Gatorade.

The nationwide program runs through May 13.

"We have made a strong commitment to the youth of America by sponsoring as well as creating several events that challenge students to strive for their best," said Bill Hodges, senior vice president of marketing for Discover Card Services.

Discover's sponsorship is part of the Discover Card youth program, which includes a scholarship, a music program, and sponsorship of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, a group that grants the wishes of terminally ill children.
