Visa adds 100 stores on Shanghai version of Fifth Avenue.

This summer more than 100 of Shanghai's most exclusive merchants began accepting Visa cards.

Visa International says this was the biggest merchant signing ever for the San Francisco-based company.

Four of China's leading banks - Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, People's Construction Bank of China, Bank of Communications, and People's Agricultural Bank of China - worked to make the merchant acceptance.

Since the merchants signed on in July, international travelers to China have been able to use their Visa cards at shops on Shanghai's version of Fifth Avenue - Nan Jing Road.

Home of luxury boutiques and department stores, Nan Jing Road serves as the center for Shanghai's 12 million residents, and is a major tourist attraction.

Last year in China, Visa said it had a 140% increase in card spending.
