Drexler Technology Corp., in Mountain View, Calif., through a European value-added reseller, is upgrading its electronic money card-payment system developed for a major financial group in the Czech Republic.

The system is the first optical card/biometric verification banking system in any Eastern European country. Based on Czech Republic consumers' use of a prepaid debit card, the system will enable the cardholder to make purchases, withdraw cash and have wages transferred to the card, said Richard Haddock, president of LaserCard Systems Corp., a Drexler subsidiary.

Drexler is installing 117 lDX TouchSafe units from Identix Inc., a leading worldwide marketer of live-scan and biometric fingerprint systems.
