Midcoast Mortgage's lenders will use laptops.

MELVILLE, N.Y. -- Midcoast Mortgage Corp. has provided its loan officers throughout the state with laptop computers and plans 'to extend the technology soon. to New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The company says its goal is to "better serve all customers in the most time-effective means possible, day or night." Willard Soper, the company's president and chief executive, said, "The addition of this new origination system will enable our loan originators to bring our offices right to the customer's home. We can now provide our customers with on-the-spot prequalifications, the ability to compare various loan products, and answer customers' questions."

Midcoast acquired Sunshine Financial Corp. in April, expanding its market to Florida. The finn reportedly hired Goldman, Sachs & Co. to help it find a buyer, but there has been no official announcement. Midcoast services about $5 billion in loans and originated $2 billion of mortgages last year.
