Valley National of N.J. buying Rock Bank.

WAYNE, N.J. -- Valley National Bancorp said it has completed a definitive agreement to acquire Rock Financial Corp., parent of Rock Bank of North Plainfield, N.J.

Rock Bank, with $190 million of assets and five branches, would give Valley National its first presence in Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties. Valley expects to expand its small-business lending by taking advantage of Rock's status as a Small Business Administration "preferred lender," said Gerald H. Lipkin, chairman and chief executive officer of $3.5 billion-asset Valley National.
