GE card unit renews its pact with Total.

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Total System Services Inc. said it has signed a five-year processing agreement with GE Capital Consumer Card Co. of Cincinnati.

The General Electric Co. affiliate is extending a relationship under the previous contract dating from March 1989.

"GE and its aggressive marketing plans have been a pan of our growth over the years," said Philip W. Tomlinson, president of Total System, noting the success of the GE Rewards MasterCard rebate program.

Michael Schauer, chairman of GE Capital Consumer Card Co., said he expects continued aggressive growth.

Total System, a Synovus Financial Corp. subsidiary that is the second-largest bank card processor, serves 114 issuers with more than 40 million cardholders and 350,000 merchant accounts.
