In Briefs: Homebuilders Honor Countrywide's Mozilo

WASHINGTON - Angelo Mozilo, president of Countrywide Funding Corp., has been inducted into the National Housing Hall of Fame by the National Association of Home Builders.

"In the last 25 years alone, his corporation has financed more than $115 billion in single-family home mortgage units," the association said in an announcement. "By creating a publicly held mortgage company, his vision and industry leadership have recast the structure of mortgage finance."

Countrywide is the nation's largest home lender and presently services about $115 billion of mortgages.

Three others were also inducted, all from the building industry. They are: Bernard Hankin, a pioneer in environmental concerns; Shirley Wiseman Lach, a former NAHB president who has been active in programs for the handicapped; and Harvey Meyerhoff, a long-time NAHB activist.
