ACCESS UPDATE: VIRTUAL SUCCESS

It's been more than six months since Huntington Bancshares Inc. unveiled its branch of the future in a Columbus, Ohio, offce building. And William M. Randle is declaring success.

The Huntington senior vice president appears in a 10-minute video produced by AT&T Global Information Solutions - the bank's technology partner - that promotes both the branch and the new technology that went into it. The 2,500 square-foot facility includes souped-up automated teller machines, interactive video machines to handle sales and service - and virtually no bank employees.

We were prepared to lose as much as 20% of our existing customer base and still call it a success, says Mr. Randle in the video. So far, we have lost less than 2% of our original customer base.

In fact, he said Huntington opened up more new accounts on the personal banking machines in a few short months than the traditional branch it replaced did in an entire year.
