Barclays to Offer Services on Internet

worldwide computer network known as the Internet. The United Kingdom-based bank has been developing its "BarclaySquare" commercial and community site for merchants to sell their goods over the Internet. In putting this together, Barclays Merchant Services division has teamed with a raft of service providers, including Netscape Communications Corp., Sybase Inc., and Interactive Telephony Ltd. Netscape provides access to the World Wide Web, the multimedia-capable annex of the Internet. The new electronic marketplace will run on Sybase servers. And Supernet, a division of Interactive Telephony, developed the encryption technology that will allow for secure credit card transactions. The BarclaySquare shopping center will reside within Supernet.
