Tech Bytes: Marshall & Ilsley Eyes Image-Based Lockbox

MILWAUKEE - M&I Marshall & Ilsley Bank has announced plans to offer image-based wholesale lockbox services.

Such cash management services are becoming increasingly popular with financial institutions looking for new sources of fee-based revenues.

The M&I service, which is expected to be generally available by yearend, will allow M&I corporate customers to obtain on-line or CD-ROM-based images of checks written against their accounts.

The image technology, when put to use in a particular service called positive pay, is expected to help fight check fraud. The service lets corporate customers view images of questionable checks before the bank pays them.

Marshall & Ilsley Bank is a unit of Marshall & Ilsley Corp., which has $12.7 billion of assets.
