PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: Fair, Isaac Promotes Woldrich to Oversee Business Units as Chief Operating Officer

Fair, Isaac & Co. has tapped John D. Woldrich, an executive vice president, to take over as chief operating officer later this summer.

Mr. Woldrich, 52, will replace outgoing chief operating officer Robert D. Sanderson, who is retiring from the company at the end of September after 26 years with Fair, Isaac.

Mr. Woldrich will assume his new responsibilities Aug. 1.

Mr. Sanderson's duties will be divided between two executives: one to take over as chief operating officer and one to lead the credit business unit.

Patrick G. Culhane, a senior vice president in charge of credit bureau and solicitation services, will head the company's entire domestic and international credit management operations.

Splitting Mr. Sanderson's job will free Mr. Woldrich to oversee all of Fair, Isaac's business units. It will also enable him to take on corporate marketing and research and development responsibilities, according to Larry E. Rosenberger, the chief executive officer of Fair, Isaac.

"I feel we're now at a point where a larger portion of my time should be focused on intermediate and long-term issues, rather than day-to-day operations management," Mr. Rosenberger said. "The reorganization will make that possible." Under Mr. Sanderson, some of the business units report directly to Mr. Rosenberger.

This management change will foster "a greater cohesiveness" among the company's various business areas, allowing Mr. Woldrich to "fill in the cracks," more readily exploit overall business opportunities, and pursue alliances, Mr. Rosenberger added.

Under the new organizational structure, five credit group divisions that formerly reported to Mr. Sanderson will report to Mr. Culhane. These units are credit bureau and solicitation services, account management, application screening, North American market, and international.

Mr. Woldrich, who joined Fair, Isaac in 1972, has held a wide array of posts at the company in the areas of production, product management, and most recently, domestic and international marketing and business alliances.
