In Brief: Macintosh Mapping Software Wins Award

MapInfo for Macintosh version 3.0, desktop mapping software used by banks to track Community Reinvestment Act lending, was chosen as the best new data management tool by MacUser magazine's Editors' Choice, or "Eddy," awards.

The software, produced by MapInfo Corp. in Troy, N.Y., beat two other finalists: Microsoft Excel 5.0 and FileMaker Pro Server 2.0.

In announcing the award at the winter 1995 Macintosh exposition in San Francisco last week, MacUser editors said the software helps users make better business decisions through geographic and demographic analysis.

"MapInfo provides the most powerful and sophisticated set of desktop mapping tools available to Mac as well as PC users at an affordable price," the editors said.

All new Mac products released between Nov. 1, 1993, and Nov. 1, 1994, were eligible for the Eddy award.
