In Brief: Morgan Says Refis Hot In North Central U.S.

NEW YORK - J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. said its indexes of mortgage applications continued to show strong refinancing volume in the North Central region of the country. Though the index for the region slipped 2% in the latest week, the 292.7 figure remained the highest in the country and well above the national average of 238.1.

The West, other than California, also continued strong, rising 1%, to 288.3.

The national purchase index was down 9% for the week and remains well below the level four weeks ago.
