In Brief: Mid-Atlantic Director Named by Regulator

WASHINGTON - The National Credit Union Administration's Middle Atlantic region once again has a director after a 10-month vacancy.

Jane A. Walters, currently the agency's controller, has been tapped to head the agency's Region 2. The office has been without a director since David Marquis was picked to head the Office of Examination and Insurance.

Ms. Walters is the first woman to hold the rank of regional director. NCUA Chairman Norman E. D'Amours has said that promoting women and minorities is a priority.

Ms. Walters, a 14-year agency veteran, has held various positions in the agency's Middle Atlantic and Midwest regions. She was made associate midwestern regional director in 1990, and in July 1994 was appointed agency controller.

The acting Region 2 director, Robert Schafer, will move to the Office of Corporate Credit Unions where he will serve as the division's deputy director.

Kent Buckham, the acting deputy director of corporate credit unions, will become deputy director of the Office of Examination and Insurance.
