Card Briefs: EBT Contractor to Vend Hunting, Fishing Licenses

AUSTIN, Tex. - Transactive Corp., the Texas government's electronic benefits transfer contractor, said it will also be providing state hunting and fishing licenses through its point of sale network.

Under a five-year agreement, Transactive will design, manufacture, install, and implement a terminal network that will electronically issue the licenses at 28 district offices of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, 100 state parks, and more than 3,000 other licensing locations throughout Texas.

Transactive, a subsidiary of the lottery system company Gtech Corp., said the annual licensing volume is 3.5 million.

Transactive's Texas Lone Star system, which distributes food stamps and welfare payments for the State of Texas, is currently serving more than one million individuals in 400,000 households through 6,500 retailers in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth areas.

By the end of 1995, the Texas electronic benefits transfer system is expected to distribute $3 billion in benefits annually to three million Texas residents in 1.3 million households through a network of 16,000 retailers.
