Roosevelt Named Executive Editor

Phil Roosevelt has been named executive editor of the American Banker.

Mr. Roosevelt's priority as the top editor will be to promote high standards of journalism throughout the newspaper, said its publisher, Mario DiUbaldi, in announcing the promotion. "Readers expect a lot from the American Banker, and we must make sure that we continue to deliver," Mr. DiUbaldi said.

Mr. Roosevelt, 38, joined the newspaper in 1987 and became a senior editor in 1993.

He began his career as a reporter at The News Tribune of Waltham, Mass., and went on to write for Institutional Investor Newsletters and the International Herald-Tribune.

Mr. Roosevelt holds master's degrees in business administration and journalism from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in English from Tufts University.

In related actions, Robert M. Garsson has been appointed senior editor, responsible for the Washington, Community Banking, Compliance, and Credit Unions sections of the paper. Mr. Garsson, 43, joined the paper in 1982.

Succeeding Mr. Garsson as Washington bureau chief is Barbara A. Rehm, 34, who joined the paper in 1987.
