Card Briefs: B of A Illinois Installing ATMs in 172 Stores

CHICAGO - Bank of America Illinois plans to install automated teller machines in 172 Jewel-Osco Stores throughout the Midwest.

The bank will also set up three branches inside Jewel-Osco stores as part of a program to study the feasibility of providing additional services in the Chicago area.

Installation of the ATMs is scheduled to begin in August and the three in-store financial centers beginning in October.

BankAmerica, which is based in San Francisco, acquired Chicago-based Continental Bank Corp. and established Bank of America Illinois in September 1994.

Jewel Food Stores and Osco Drug are divisions of American Stores Co., one of the nation's largest food and drug retailers. Jewel, with headquarters in Melrose Park, Ill., operates 188 stores in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Iowa. Osco, of Oakbrook, Ill., operates 531 stores in 20 states.
