PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: MasterCard Adds 2 Executives to Chip Card Team

MasterCard International appointed two executives to its smart card business marketing team.

Walter E. Greenberg has been named vice president of stored value product management, and Stuart A. Tarmy, vice president of business development.

The appointments are viewed by industry watchers as bolstering MasterCard's already strong smart card group.

Mr. Greenberg and Mr. Tarmy report to Diane Wetherington, MasterCard's senior vice president of chip card business/marketing.

Ms. Wetherington had joined the New York-based card association last summer, at about the same time Robin Townend signed on as senior vice president of chip card technology.

The two early recruits were considered big wins for MasterCard as it started to build its smart card business.

In his new position, Mr. Greenberg will be responsible for overall product management of MasterCard's stored value card application, including implementation of pilot programs worldwide.

Mr. Greenberg brings more than 15 years of technology-focused business development experience, most recently with Citicorp where he was vice president and director of home and office banking.

Mr. Tarmy becomes responsible for managing business development activities for MasterCard, including new business opportunities, joint ventures, alliances, and other chip-related initiatives. He brings more than 13 years of business development experience, most recently with Bankers Trust, where he spent the past three years as vice president of global information services.
