Card Briefs: Barclays U.K. to Issue Visa Debit Cards in Fall

SAN FRANCISCO - Barclays Bank of the United Kingdom plans to issue about 1.8 million Visa Electron cards, the card association announced.

Starting in November, the $250 billion-asset bank's cardholders will be offered cash machine cards with the Electron and Plus logos when their existing cards expire.

Visa reported there are 13 million electronic debit Electron cardholders worldwide and expects this to grow to 48 million during the next three years.
