Roundup: CEO of Ford's Finance Company Unit Dies

DALLAS - Reece A. Overcash Jr., the chairman and CEO of Associates Corp. of North America, died last Tuesday of a stroke. Mr. Overcash, 68, joined Associates in 1975 as president and was named chairman in 1979. In 1989, he oversaw the sale of the company to Ford Motor Co. by Paramount Commuications Inc.

The Associates, a consumer and commercial finance company, manages assets of more than $35 billion. Based in Dallas, it is part of Ford's Financial Services Group.

Mr. Overcash, a Charlotte, N.C. native, began his career in 1952, when he joined Charlotte-based Home Finance Group as an auditor. In 1965, Home Finance was merged into American Credit Corp., which was acquired by Wachovia Corp. in 1970. Mr. Overcash, by then American Credit's president, ran the company for Wachovia until he joined Associates.
