Tech bytes: Sun Microsystems Inks Deals with Foreign Banks

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Sun Microsystems Computer Co. has struck several deals with overseas banks in the past week.

Westfalenbank, a regional bank in Germany, has purchased a network computing system from Sun as part of a reengineering effort at its data center. The bank provides consulting and administration services for corporations and institutional investors.

Unibanco, Brazil's fifth-largest bank, is using a Sun platform as the basis of its home-banking service. The service, known as 30 Horas, lets more than 40,000 customers do their banking via personal computer. The service's name is derived from the fact that customers can bank through branches six hours each day and through their personal computers 24 hours per day.
