In Brief: Sterling Says Profits Up 34% in 2d Quarter

NEW YORK - Sterling Bancorp reported a 34% increase in net income for the second quarter, to $1.297 million, and a 36% increase in net income for the six months ended June 30, to $2.554 million, compared with the prior- year periods. This marks the 11th consecutive quarterly increase in net income for the company.
