In Brief: North Fork Sells 9.9% Holding in Sunrise

MATTITUCK, N.Y. - North Fork Bancorp. sold its entire 9.9% holding of Sunrise Bancorp stock on Aug. 1, netting $9.8 million one day after the thrift holding company agreed to be acquired by another suitor.

The sale of 326,000 shares at $30 per share came after North Fork officials decided not to make a counteroffer for Farmingdale-based Sunrise, which the bank had pursued since January, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Sunrise agreed on July 31 to sell to Garden City-based Reliance Bancorp for $32 per share, or $110 million in cash.
