SAN FRANCISCO - Underscoring BankAmerica Corp.'s increased commitment to its corporate business, the bank holding company has appointed Michael J. Murray, currently group executive vice president of its Chicago-based U.S. corporate group, to succeed David A. Coulter as head of its U.S. corporate and international groups.

Mr. Murray will be responsible for the bank's large corporate, financial institution, and government clients around the world.

Mr. Murray will report to Mr. Coulter, who was named president of BankAmerica in August and succeeds Richard M. Rosenberg as chief executive on Jan. 1. Mr. Murray's successor will be named later.

Mr. Murray has headed BankAmerica's U.S. corporate group since its merger with Continental Bank Corp. in September 1994.

Prior to the merger, he was vice chairman and head of corporate banking for Continental Bank, an institution he joined as a credit department trainee in 1969.
