Card Briefs: U.S. Bancorp Joins Star System Network

PORTLAND, Ore. - U.S. Bancorp has joined the Star System regional electronic banking network as an equity member.

The move brought U.S. Bank subsidiaries in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho into the network that, by some measures, is the largest in the nation.

U.S. Bank California and U.S. Bank Nevada have been participants in Star and its point-of-sale service, Explore, for several years.

With the addition of U.S. Bancorp, the number of automated teller machines participating in the Star network has jumped by approximately 1,200, to 20,500. U.S. Bank of Oregon, U.S. Bank of Washington, and U.S. Bank of Idaho will bring nearly a million new ATM cardholders to the network.

Star System Inc., based in San Diego, is owned by 17 financial institutions and has 830 member financial institutions and 86 million cardholders.
