EDITOR'S NOTE: TURNING TO THE 'CORNER'

In this issue of Management Strategies we introduce a new regular section to better acquaint bankers with the technology companies they often turn to for new systems.

Our first "Tech Corner" story focuses on SEI Corp., the Wayne, Pa.- based trust system vendor and outsourcer (see page 16A). Contributing editor Patricia A. Murphy reports that SEI has a reputation for having the capacity to handle more accounts than any other system currently available to banks.

While such a reputation can provide an edge in this era of consolidation, SEI is hardly without tough competitors. Earlier this year, for example, two of its bank customers opted to buy trust processing systems from Broadway & Seymour Inc., based in Charlotte, N.C.

Also, readers should be on the lookout for a special issue of Management Strategies that will be published later this month - the annual American Banker/Tower Group survey of bank technology. A package of articles will report on a range of trends including spending, remote banking, industrywide computer processing capacity, and so on. Look for it Sept. 25.
