Tech Bytes: Meca Software Names Chief Financial Officer

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Meca Software Inc., the personal finance software maker owned by two of the nation's largest banks, has appointed a chief financial officer.

Meca has tapped Joseph Capute, formerly an executive vice president and chief financial officer at Colorado Prime Foods, as chief financial officer. The position had been vacant since May 1994, when Paul Harrison moved from chief financial officer to president and chief executive officer.

BankAmerica Corp. and NationsBank Corp. acquired Meca from Block Financial Corp. in May. Meca makes Managing Your Money, personal finance software that competes with Intuit Inc.'s Quicken and Microsoft Corp.'s Money.

BankAmerica and NationsBank said they intend to help Meca build an on- line banking service similar to those offered by Microsoft and Intuit.
