In Brief: HUD to Ease Manufactured-Home Codes

ARLINGTON, Va. - Henry Cisneros, secretary of housing and urban development, said his department planned to work with the manufactured housing industry and its trade association to revise HUD's standards code.

He also said HUD would seek to remove "discriminatory" city and county housing codes that hinder the greater use of such homes - essentially large mobile homes built to remain in one place.

Mr. Cisneros added that he would direct Nicolas Retsinas, the federal housing commissioner, to pay special attention to financing programs that would benefit buyers of manufactured homes.
