Card Briefs: Visa's Supermarket Volume Tops $1 Billion

SAN FRANCISCO - Visa U.S.A. said its supermarket payments volume reached $1 billion in August.

Visa said supermarket sales have increased more than 16-fold since 1990, and currently account for 3% of gross supermarket sales in the United States.

Visa projects that its 1995 supermarket volume will top $10 billion - $400 million more than in 1990.
