Deposit Guaranty, Zions First Clients For Visa's Home Banking Software

Visa International plans to announce today that two regional banks will become the first to use its home banking software.

Deposit Guaranty National Bank of Jackson, Miss., and Zions First National Bank of Salt Lake City will both offer banking and bill payment services through the bank-branded software, which was developed by Visa Interactive, Visa's remote banking arm.

More than 70 financial institutions are reportedly involved in Visa's home banking program - which includes touch-tone, screen phone, and personal computer offerings - but few have yet to formally announce pilots or roll-outs.

Unlike other, often more elaborate personal finance software packages, the Visa software is designed to perform only the most basic tasks: paying bills, checking accounts, and transferring funds.

"There are a number of people who have personal computers in their homes or offices, but spend little time on their keyboards because of perceived difficulties in learning how to use new programs," said Fraser Bullock, the president and chief operating officer of Visa Interactive.
