Veteran Banking Lawyer Becomes General Counsel at FDIC

WASHINGTON - William F. Kroener 3d starts work today as general counsel of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

Mr. Kroener, 49, comes to the government from Davis, Polk & Wardwell, where he has practiced law since 1971. A banking attorney, Mr. Kroener was made a partner of the firm in 1979.

He has practiced in Washington, New York, and London.

Douglas H. Jones, acting general counsel for the past 13 months, returns to his job as senior deputy general counsel at the agency.

Mr. Kroener earned his law degree and MBA at Stanford University. He earned his bachelor's from Yale University in 1967. He lives in Chevy Chase, Md., with his wife and two children.
