NationsBank in Test Of Visa Cash Card

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - NationsBank Corp. said it is the first bank to implement a pilot of the Visa Cash Card, a disposable stored-value card with a computer chip. Visa plans to distribute the card widely throughout Atlanta during the 1996 Olympic Games.

The $184 billion-asset bank started the pilot on Oct. 2, calling it the first step toward the rollout of a program, which will eventually encompass more than two million cards and thousands of merchants in the metro Atlanta area.

The pilot is in place at NationsBank Plaza in downtown Atlanta. Cards can be used in the building cafeteria and an adjacent convenience store. Cards will be available to the 3,000 people working in the building, including 1,500 NationsBank employees.

The NationsBank Cash Card can be purchased at a card dispensing machine just outside the building's main lobby. Anyone can purchase the card, but it currently can only be used in the building. As the program advances toward the Olympics, the card will be accepted in more locations.
