Card Briefs: Racom and Rohm Developing a Smart Card

DENVER - Racom Systems Inc. has joined with Rohm Co. of Japan to develop contactless smart cards for the worldwide market.

The cards, with chips to be manufactured by Rohm, will be able to transmit data using radio frequency technology. They can be used for ticketing, automatic fare collection, point of sale transactions, customer loyalty, and electronic benefits transfer programs.

The partners said they have a multimillion-dollar agreement, but declined to be more specific.
