Tech bytes: Sungard's Profits Hurt By Charge for Buyout

Sungard Data Systems Inc., Wayne, Pa., reported third-quarter earnings of $12 million, a 12% increase over the year-earlier period.

Officials at Sungard, a vendor of investment accounting systems and a leading provider of disaster recovery services, said the third-quarter results were affected by one-time charge of $1.35 million related to the company's previously announced acquisition of Intelus Corp. Without the charge, Sungard's net income grew by 24%, they noted.
