chief investment officer in its trust and investment services division. John F. Moore joined the $10 billion-asset bank, a unit of First Empire Corp., on Oct. 16. Previously, he was director of asset management at Value Line Asset Management, New York, overseeing $4.5 billion in mutual funds, pensions, and endowments. In his new role at M&T, Mr. Moore will manage a $2.1 billion portfolio that includes institutional accounts and M&T's $500 million-asset mutual fund family, the Centurion Funds. Mr. Moore takes over those duties from Harry R. Stainrook, an executive vice president of M&T who took on interim responsibility for running the trust and investment division about a year ago, when its chief was reassigned. Mr. Stainrook said in a telephone interview that Mr. Moore's experience at a mutual fund company made him especially attractive. "We needed to get somebody in here who would run it more like our competitors would," Mr. Stainrook said.
