Premenos and UUnet In Internet Alliance

Corp., and UUnet Technologies Inc., announced an alliance to build a system for electronic data interchange over the Internet. The system will combine Premenos' electronic data interchange software with UUnet's Internet access options such as World Wide Web services and security software. "EDI is a key element in business-to-business electronic commerce, and the Internet makes this capability more broadly available and affordable," said David Foster, a vice president with UUnet, Fairfax, Va. Premenos, of Concord, Calif., provides electronic data interchange software and network services for EDI-formatted documents over open networks. Premenos' software, called Templar, operates on IBM's AS/400, RISC System/6000, Hewlett Packard 9000, and SunSparc operating systems.
