Card Briefs: B of A Opens Another Self-Service Center

TORRANCE, Calif. - Bank of America opened its newest self-service banking center here.

Situated in the Del Amo Fashion Center, the self-service installation features a fully automated merchant depository service, two automated teller machines, and a "Banker-on-Call" telephone that customers can use to open new accounts.

The new merchant depository service offers more security than a traditional self-service depository. Each time a deposit is made, a camera photographs the customer, as well as the deposit as it slides into the vault. The customer then receives a detailed transaction record, which enables store management to ensure the accuracy of its records.

In addition, merchants can place coin and currency orders over the phone for pick up the next business day through secured, private merchant boxes at the self-service banking center. Special "Holiday Change" same day service is available to merchant customers through Jan. 31.

This is Bank of America's first self-service banking center in Los Angeles County. Two similar centers opened earlier this year in Moreno Valley and Escondido, Calif.

Bank of America is the lead bank of BankAmerica Corp., San Francisco.
