Capital Briefs: CUNA's No. 2 Gets Nod As Interim President

The Credit Union National Association's No. 2 official will take the trade group's top job Dec. 18 on a temporary basis.

Pete Crear, currently executive vice president and chief staff officer for the industry's largest trade group, will serve as interim president until a new one is found.

He will replace Ralph Swoboda, who was ousted at the trade group's annual convention in October after eight years as president.

Mr. Swoboda originally had announced he would leave the Madison, Wis., trade group Dec. 31. But in an interview, he said he would step down Dec. 15.

"I just want to let a good transition take place," he said. "I'll be in and out to pack up and answer mail and it's a lot easier to do that if I don't have other things to worry about."

Mr. Crear, currently in charge of all of CUNA's administrative functions, is a 30-year industry veteran who joined the trade group as senior vice president in 1990. Before that he had served as chief executive of the Indiana Credit Union League.
