Card Briefs: International Verifact In Supermarket Deal

TORONTO - International Verifact Inc., the Canadian maker of point of sale terminals, has been awarded a contract for National Grocers retail outlets, including Loblaws and Zehrs.

The supermarket company's bank, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, is working with International Verifact and Sweda Canada on software to connect to the Interac national debit network.

Michael Ricci, director of sales for IVI Canada, said the Sweda electronic cash registers will have battery backup power, enabling transaction processing to continue during power failures.

"IVI's C2000 POSPads are directly linked to CIBC through dedicated land lines, thus speeding the end-of-day reconciliation for debit/credit transactions," he added. "Also, IVI has eliminated the receipt printer normally associated with debit/credit terminals by integrating the receipt printing into the ECR printer."
