Sprint Veteran Takes Systems Development Post at MasterCard

Roderick C. Mack was to join MasterCard International today as senior vice president of systems development.

Mr. Mack, 47, had been vice president of business systems at Sprint Corp. He spent more than 10 years at the long distance company and its predecessor, United Telecommunications.

He is based at MasterCard's operations center in St. Louis, reporting to Jerry McElhatton, president for global operations and technology services.

Mr. Mack is charged with developing and implementing information technology in support of MasterCard's 22,000 member institutions worldwide. He will play a role in the New York-based assocaition's regionalization of technology services.

The first two remote processing centers are in Guangzhou, China, and Sydney, Australia.

Mr. Mack said last week that his Sprint and MasterCard assignments have much in common.

"Both positions involve managing very large global projects, with an emphasis on forming partnerships," he said. "I learned how to speed up product delivery capability, and that will also be useful here."

At Sprint, Mr. Mack was credited with improving product delivery capabilites and developing two major billing platforms for the midsize business and residential markets.

Earlier, Mr. Mack worked for Southwestern Bell. A native of Dallas, he has a degree in mathematics from the University of Texas.
