Banknorth Hires Ex-Fleet Official To Run Trust, Private Banking

Richard Johnson has joined Banknorth Group Inc. of Burlington, Vt., as managing director of trust and private banking. He is a former senior vice president of Fleet Bank of Massachusetts.

Mr. Johnson will direct and manage the trust and private banking activities at Banknorth's banks in Vermont and New Hampshire.

From 1974 to 1978 Mr. Johnson was a trust officer at Howard Bank. He left to join Guaranty Bank and Trust Co., Worcester, Mass., where he became senior vice president and division manager in charge of the financial services division, including five departments.

He joined Bank of New England in 1988 as senior vice president; he managed trust and private banking activities at three of the bank's key offices in Massachusetts.

Mr. Johnson joined Fleet Bank when it purchased Bank of New England. He was responsible for directing fiduciary and estate settlement administration throughout Fleet's Massachusetts marketplace.
