Card Briefs: First Data Offers Upgraded Terminal

OMAHA - First Data Corp.'s card services group said it has approved the DataCard 640-SV transaction terminal for use on its payment authorization networks.

Pat Bazley, vice president of merchant sales, said the certification gives First Data merchant banks and independent service organizations more of the transaction options and flexibility they desire when "developing payment authorization solutions for their clients."

The DataCard terminal has a relatively large two-line display, 20- position keypad, and 128K of random access memory, which allows for sizable transaction volumes without requiring complex coding by users.

"We spent a lot of time talking to banks, ISOs, and merchants to determine exactly what they want in a terminal," said John Miller, vice president of marketing in DataCard's transaction systems group. "We found a widespread need for a high-capacity memory, two-line display, ease of use, and a low price."
