Card Briefs: Visa Adds Acquirers For Its Electron Card

SAN FRANCISCO - Hoping to capitalize on international tourism growth, 11 U.S. financial institutions and processors have signed on as acquirers for merchants accepting Visa's Electron cards.

They are Bank of America, the Bank of Boulder, Barnett Merchant Services, Wachovia Bank, SunTrust BankCard, Card Establishment Services, EFS National Bank, FNB Omaha, Nabanco, NationsBank Corp., and Wells Fargo Bank.

Visa said it will be working with these merchant processors to establish a base of more than 100,000 merchants in major U.S. cities and tourist destinations this year.

Visa expects the Electron card base, concentrated in Europe and Latin America, to grow from 10 million to 48 million over the next three years.
