Roundup: Go-Ahead for BB&T-Southern National Merger

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - BB&T Financial Corp. and Southern National Corp. said Tuesday they had received approval from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. to merge.

The Federal Reserve Board approved the merger on Jan. 17. No other federal approvals are required.

The merged company to come into existence Feb. 28 will be called Southern National Corp. and will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol SNB. Subsidiary banks and offices will carry the Branch Banking and Trust Co. or BB&T name.
