California's Electronic Clearing House Inc. In Black for Quarter

Electronic Clearing House Inc. said it earned $440,000, or four cents a share, its the first quarter of its fiscal year.

In the quarter, which ended Dec. 31, the Agoura Hills, Calif.-based provider of merchant credit card services and terminals reversed a loss of $166,000 in the year-earlier period.

Revenues doubled, to $5.1 million, while income from operations rose to $479,000 from $173,000.

Chief executive officer Joel Barry attributed the performance to increased sales by Computer Based Controls, the equipment subsidiary, which delivered 3,500 EB9 point of sale systems in the first quarter.

Processing operations suffered a loss, but the company said it expects them to turn a profit early in the third quarter as a result of increased merchant sales and promotional programs.
