Short Takes: NFL's Payton Does A Different Kind Of Cutting: Ribbon

No wonder the organizers of First Northwest Bank chose Valentine's Day for a ribbon-cutting ceremony: They had "Sweetness" going for them.

Former National Football League great Walter J. Payton was on hand for the grand opening of the Arlington Heights, Ill., bank -along with several fellow directors. The bank, which opened with $6.4 million in capital, is targeting consumers and businesses with $10 million or less in sales.

Until the bank's building is completed this summer, business will be conducted from temporary on-site quarters. "I just hope the trailer doesn't tip over," from heavy customer traffic, said John S. Corneliuson, the bank's president.
