Clarification: 03/06/95 issue

The headline and first paragraph of a page one article Monday may have been overly precise in describing an estimate by Ricki Tigert Helfer, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., about the potential costs to the government of lawsuits by thrifts.

Ms. Helfer did not specify the figure $15 billion. Rather, as the article explained, she cited a range of $1.2 billion to $4.9 billion and said the final cost may be "several times" higher.
