Short Takes: Fifth Third Unit Hires Marketing Executives

Fifth Third Bancorp., Cincinnati, has hired some fresh faces for its securities services unit.

The $14.3 billion-asset banking company named Hugh Herndon assistant vice president and senior trust officer of its lead bank this month.

He is in charge of marketing the custodial and cash management services that Fifth Third supplies to mutual fund companies, institutional money managers, and insurance companies.

Mr. Herndon, formerly with Investors Fiduciary Trust Co., Kansas City, Mo., is joined by Helen B. Stephens, who has transferred from Fifth Third's retail brokerage unit to be marketing manager for custody and cash management sales in the Midwest.

Fifth Third also hired Elizabeth G. Bernotas to be relationship manager for mutual funds that use Fifth Third's custody and cash management services. Ms. Bernotas was formerly a global mutual fund custody supervisor at Brown Brothers, Harriman & Co. in Boston. Ms. Stephens and Ms. Bernotas will report directly to Mr. Herndon.
